PROGRESSIVE WEB APP INFO

For our scales you don't have to download an extra app from some app-store, you can use it directly from the browser, even at several devices at the same time!

ON ANDROID

On Android (6.0 Marshmallow or later) you can use our app with the Chrome or Opera browser, also the Samsung Internet browser will work.

ON PC (Mac, Linux & Windows)

On a pc or laptop, the following browsers are working with our app: Chrome, Opera & Microsoft Edge.

On Mac you need min. OS X Yosemite or later. Some MacBooks may not work: Check "About this Mac" / "System Report" / "Bluetooth" and verify that Low Energy is supported. On Linux you need Kernel 3.19+ and BlueZ 5.41+ installed. On Windows you need Windows 10 version 1706 (Creators Update) or later.

ON IPHONE & IPAD

On iDevices, its a bit complicated *lol*.
But no worries!

Here you can't just use a normal browser, Apple want to force small people like us to make native apps instead of progressive web apps. They say its for security reasons - but in real they just want our money. Anyway - also on iPhones you are able to use our scale - with the help of an 3rd party app from the official appstore! (which makes it sooo much more secure *lol*). Anyway, sorry that you need an app here!

1st.) Choose and download an App

There are several browser apps for bluetooth-devices available in the official app store. We've tested with the free Bluefy App - which was working great and out of the box for us. But there are also other apps available, for example WebBLE, which we not have tested until now.

2nd) Use that app to open our app

If you have opened the app, navigate to our progressive app website (https://up-scales.com/420/) and you should be able to use the scale directly!

You can use - and we propose that - our progressive web app 100% offline!

Why that matters to us (and to you): FOR GOOD! - offline, no adverts, no cookies, no subscription, no account.

Open our UP↑SCALE PWA once while you are online. From then on it is stored in your browser and also starts without any network/internet connection! (Only the barcode lookup of food products needs internet.) Best is to install it on your device: then you get an app icon on your home screen, desktop or in your start menu, and the app opens in its own window - like a normal app. Here is how to install it:

Chrome (PC, Mac & Linux)

Click the install icon at the right side of the address bar, or open the menu ⋮ › "Cast, save and share" › "Install page as app".

Microsoft Edge

Click the "App available" icon in the address bar, or open the menu ··· › "Apps" › "Install this site as an app".

Opera (PC)

Opera has no install option on the PC: just bookmark the app! After the first visit, the bookmark also opens the app offline.

Chrome on Android

Tap the menu ⋮ at the top right and choose "Install app" or "Add to Home screen" (and then "Install").

Samsung Internet

Tap the install icon in the address bar, or open the menu ☰ › "Add page to" › "Home screen".

Opera on Android

Open the browser menu and choose "Add to Home screen".

iPhone & iPad

Whether the app stays available offline depends on your browser app (e.g. Bluefy). If it doesn't, just use the app online there.

Good to know

The menu names can differ a bit between browser versions and languages. Your browser keeps the app until you delete the browsing data (site data) of up-scales.com - then just open it once online again. In a private/incognito window the app is not kept. When you are online, new app versions get downloaded in the background, but they are only installed when you click "INSTALL UPDATE" at the bottom of the app - so you can also keep your current app version.

Alternative: one single file

On our download- and update page you can also download the whole app in one simple .html-file! This file you can store somewhere on your computer/phone and open it from there directly instead of visiting our website - for example to keep a specific app version.

If its not working out of the box

then you probably need to set some "flags" in the browser (specially for the SCAN-FOR-SCALES option)! No worries, thats easy!

If the app is not working directly

no worries, probably you just have to allow your browser to connect directly (wireless). This you can do with setting some flags in your browser, here is how to do:

For Chrome Users

Type "chrome://flags" in your address bar.

For Edge Users

Type "edge://flags" in your address bar.

For Opera Users

Type "opera://flags" in your address bar.

For Samsung Internet Users

Type "internet://flags" in your address bar.

Once you've entered the Flags menu, search for the following flags one by one:

1st: #enable-experimental-web-platform-features (Experimental Web Platform features)

2nd: #enable-web-bluetooth-new-permissions-backend (Use the new permission backend for Web Bluetooth)

3rd: #enable-web-bluetooth (Web Bluetooth)

Each flag will have a drop-down menu that will be set to Default.

Click to set the value of the drop-down menu to Enabled.

Restart your browser.

If you are on an ANDROID device:

If the connect-button still doesn't work, check if you granted the "Nearby devices" rights to your browser!
Open Settings > Security and privacy > Privacy Controls > Permission Manager > Nearby Devices and activate nearby devices for your selected browser.

The QR code scanner shows no camera?

To load THINGS via QR code, the app needs the camera of your device. Allow the camera for the app when your browser asks for it - or later in the site settings of your browser (the lock icon left of the address).

My scale is called "Decent Scale UP-420 #..." now?

Then the Decent Scale mode is on (⚙ SETTINGS): coffee apps and machines like Beanconqueror, GaggiMate and the DE1 only find scales with such a name. Pick it in the list of the browser as usual - our app works with it like always. Switch it off in the settings to get the normal name back. (Decent, Decent Scale and DE1 are names of Decent Espresso International Ltd. - UP↑SCALE is not affiliated with or endorsed by Decent Espresso.)

The label printer does not show up?

For direct printing (LABEL PRINTER SETUP) the app talks to your printer via wireless, USB or a serial port - this works in Chrome and Edge on PC, in Chrome or Samsung Internet on Android (USB printers need an OTG adapter) and with wireless printers in the Bluefy browser on iPhone and iPad. Switch the printer on and make sure it is not connected to another app. Wireless printers with a serial connection have to be paired in the Bluetooth settings of your computer first, then choose "Serial port" as connection. If nothing works, the print dialog of the browser still prints on every installed printer.

If you still have trouble, even with activated flags, have a look here first:

Type "chrome://bluetooth-internals" into your address bar.

This will show the adapter details. (You should see green hooks for at least: Initialized, Present and Powered to be able to use the app.)

Now, try to select 'Devices' in the top left menu and start a scan from there.

If this is not working, then you should check your bluetooth settings! Sometimes a powersaving mode can make trouble.

Sometimes its very simple - does the scale have power?

If everything should work, but you still can't find the scale in the browser - please check if its powered! Open the top with a twist to the left and have a look if the LEDs are on! Unplug and plug again. And check if there is maybe something a bit loose or so!
