Every way to connect: Bluetooth, USB cable, more scales - also scales of other makers
The app reaches your UP↑SCALE over Bluetooth or, on a computer, over its USB cable. Several phones and computers can be connected at once, several scales work together, and Bluetooth scales of other makers can join (BETA). Here is every way, what it needs and where your data stays.
Does your scale work? Every scale, port and board with an FAQ by maker: + every scale.
Overview
| Way | What it needs | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth | phone, tablet or computer with Chrome, Edge, Opera or Samsung Internet (iPhone / iPad: Bluefy) | the normal way - several apps at the same time |
| 🔌 USB cable | a computer with Chrome, Edge, Opera or Firefox (from version 151), the USB cable of the scale or adapter | computers without Bluetooth, places without radio |
| More scales | a second (third, ...) UP↑SCALE | weighing on several scales at once, counting with a reference scale, stations |
| Scales of other makers (BETA) | a Bluetooth scale that works with the Decent Scale protocol, a BOOKOO or an Etekcity ESN00 | as an extra scale next to an UP↑SCALE |
| VEVOR scales with RS-232 (BETA) | a VEVOR lab balance or counting scale + our RS-232 adapter | a scale to buy that becomes a smart scale - with prices |
| Relay to an adapter (BETA) | an RS-232 adapter + a Bluetooth scale of another maker + the open app | all functions of the adapter with the weight of that scale |
| Machines & devices | coffee machines and apps (Decent Scale protocol), ESP-NOW devices (PRO), label printers | the scale talks to other devices directly |
| Own programs | a USB serial port, Bluetooth advertising, a lab server (LIMS) | your own software reads the weight |
Bluetooth
Open the app, press CONNECT and choose your scale. On PRO and ENTERPRISE everything is encrypted. Several phones, tablets and computers can be connected at the same time: a change on one reaches all of them. Which browsers work, offline use and browser settings: app setup & help.
🔌 The app on the USB cable
On a computer the app can reach your UP↑SCALE scale or adapter over its USB cable instead of Bluetooth - with everything it does over Bluetooth: all modes, settings, products, recipes, sales, users and logins. The same cable powers the device.
- Plug the scale or the adapter into the computer, open the app in Chrome, Edge, Opera or Firefox (from version 151) and press VIA 🔌 USB below CONNECT. Choose the port of the scale.
- Nothing to set: an adapter still gets the weight from your scale on its RS-232 plug as before - only the way to the app changes.
- Bluetooth apps can stay connected at the same time.
- The cable link is not encrypted (the encryption is for the radio): whoever has the cable in hand has the scale in hand.
- Not on phones and tablets: their browsers have no access to USB serial ports.
It works with every UP↑SCALE: our scales 420 / 710, the 232 UP↑SCALER, the RS-232 adapter and own builds. An adapter needs a scale with an RS-232 port - or a Bluetooth scale through the relay. Manual: the app on the USB cable.
More scales at once
Press ADD MORE 🤝 SCALES at the bottom of the app and choose the next scale. In weighing and recipes the weights are added up, in counting all scales count together (a fine scale as the reference, a big one for the bulk), in check-weighing and sorting every scale is a station of the program. Free: 1 extra scale; more with PRO. Manual: 1, 2, many scales.
Scales of other makers (BETA)
ADD MORE 🤝 SCALES also lists Bluetooth scales of other makers. They join like an extra scale of ours: their weight is shown and added to the sum, TARE tares them.
| Works with | Resolution | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| scales with the Decent Scale protocol (also the Half Decent Scale with its own firmware, EspressiScale, ButtsHaus Scale) | 0.1 g | written from the published protocol; tare on the scale |
| BOOKOO Themis Mini, Themis Ultra | 0.01 g | written from the protocol BOOKOO publishes; tare on the scale |
| Etekcity ESN00 nutrition scale | 1 g | from community notes, not confirmed by the maker; the app switches it to grams |
- No app of the scale's maker needed: our app talks to the scale directly. No account, no sign-up, no maker cloud - nothing phones home and nothing tracks you. The weight goes over Bluetooth straight from the scale into the app on your device.
- The first time such a scale is added, the app loads the part that talks to it (a small download; offline afterwards). Nobody else loads it.
- Where the scale sends no stable mark, the app calls the weight stable when it stays within 2 digits for a second.
- These scales have no products, recipes or programs of their own: they are no backup or sync scale.
- BETA: not tested with every model yet. Please tell us how it works with yours.
Decent, Decent Scale, EspressiScale, ButtsHaus, BOOKOO and Etekcity are names of their owners. UP↑SCALE is not affiliated with or endorsed by them. Consumer scales are not verified for trade: for sales by weight use a verified scale (with an RS-232 adapter). Manual: scales of other makers.
Lab balances & scales with RS-232 from VEVOR (BETA)
No scale with a data port yet? These VEVOR scales have an RS-232 port. With one of our RS-232 adapters on that port (or the 232 UP↑SCALER) they become smart scales with the whole app over Bluetooth. Sorted by maximum load and division (d).
Analytical balances: up to 220 g, d = 0.1 mg
| Max × d | Scale, port, setting | VEVOR US | VEVOR EU (vevor.de) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 220 g × 0.1 mg | analytical balance with glass draft shield, g/oz/ct/mg RS-232C (9-pin), 9600 baud 8N1, live weight Adapter: preset RS232 WEIGHING SCALE + AUTO-DETECT | $269.90 in stock | not in the EU shop yet |
Precision balances: up to 6 kg, d = 1 mg to 0.01 g
| Max × d | Scale, port, setting | VEVOR US | VEVOR EU (vevor.de) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120 g × 1 mg | lab balance with glass draft shield, g/oz/ct/mg RS-232C (9-pin), 9600 baud 8N1, live weight Adapter: preset RS232 WEIGHING SCALE + AUTO-DETECT | $259.90 out of stock | not in the EU shop yet |
Counting & bench scales: up to 30 kg, d = 0.5 g to 1 g
| Max × d | Scale, port, setting | VEVOR US | VEVOR EU (vevor.de) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 kg × 1 g | industrial counting scale, 3 displays, g/kg/lb RS-232, sends a weight when it is stable ("PC" mode) - no live weight; format not checked yet Adapter: preset RS232 WEIGHING SCALE + AUTO-DETECT (untested) | $77.99 out of stock | not in the EU shop yet |
- The lab balances send their weight all the time (9600 baud, 8N1, lines like + 12.3456 g, from the manual of this balance series). Choose the preset RS232 WEIGHING SCALE and press AUTO-DETECT. They send no stable mark: the adapter judges stability itself.
- The counting scale sends a weight only when it is stable (its "PC" mode), so there is no live weight. The data cable in its box is for a computer (it types like a keyboard), not for our adapter: use its RS-232 port with a 9-pin cable.
- Cable: 9-pin, wires 2, 3 and 5, as the balance manual shows.
- BETA: written from the makers' product pages and manuals, not tested with these scales yet. Please tell us how yours works.
Prices and stock as checked on 5 Nov 2026; the price in the shop counts. The shop links are affiliate links: if you buy there, we get a small commission, your price stays the same. VEVOR is a name of its owner; UP↑SCALE is not endorsed by VEVOR. These scales are not verified for trade: for sales by weight use a verified scale.
Relay: another maker's scale as the weight source of an adapter (BETA)
With an RS-232 adapter as your main scale, ADD MORE 🤝 SCALES asks whether the other scale shall be the weight source of the adapter. Then the adapter gets its weight like that of a scale on its cable and does everything with it - tare, filters, all programs, the sales log, its licence and its data, for every app connected to it.
- The app passes the weight on: keep it open. Without it the adapter gets no weight, and 2 seconds later it listens to its cable again.
- Nothing is ever sent to the other scale: the adapter tares by itself.
- A sale booked this way is marked RELAY in the sales log. The RS-232 settings show the weight source.
- Press ADD MORE 🤝 SCALES again to stop it.
Machines & devices
- Coffee machines and coffee apps: the scale can also speak the Decent Scale protocol (Beanconqueror, GaggiMate, the DE1) - Decent Scale protocol.
- ESP-NOW devices (PRO): displays, switches and filling machines get the weight and the program state directly, without a phone, encrypted - ESP-NOW.
- Label printers over Bluetooth, USB or a serial port - label printers.
Your own programs
- USB serial: the scale sends weight lines on its USB port, live or on request - USB serial output.
- BLE FOR ALL: the weight in the Bluetooth advertising, readable by any device nearby without connecting - BLE for all.
- Lab server (LIMS / ELN): the app sends weights and sales as JSON to your server - LIMS forwarding.
Where your data is
| Our scales and adapters | Another maker's scale as an extra scale | Another maker's scale through the relay | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Products, recipes, sales, users | on the device, for every app | on the main scale | on the adapter, for every app |
| Several phones and computers | yes | yes (through the main scale) | yes - the relaying app must stay open |
| Licence | FREE, PRO, ENTERPRISE & COMPLIANCE on the device | the licence of the main scale | the licence of the adapter |
| ENTERPRISE & COMPLIANCE records | yes | yes, on the main scale | yes; such sales are marked RELAY |
For audit trail, users, signatures and sealed records you always need one of our adapters or scales: the records live on the device, not in a browser.
What comes next
- Without any UP↑SCALE hardware: a scale of another maker (Bluetooth) or a lab balance on a USB cable directly in the app, with the app's own UP↑SCALE PRO VIRTUAL licence (data in this browser, no ENTERPRISE). Planned.
- Scales with a USB port into an adapter (ESP32-S3 boards): the weight comes over USB instead of RS-232, the app over Bluetooth as always. Planned.
If it does not connect
- Bluetooth: browser, rights and flags - app setup & help.
- USB cable: no port in the list - another (data) cable or USB port (Linux: the group dialout; the Snap version of Firefox sees no serial ports, use Mozilla's Firefox or Chrome); the scale does not answer - close other programs that use the port (serial monitors, the firmware update page), then try again.
- Another maker's scale is not in the list: switch it on, close its own app (most scales talk to one app only), and bring it close to the phone or computer.
