WHY UP↑SCALE › FOR WHAT? › ℮ PREPACKAGE CONTROL
℮ prepackage control - like the inspector does it
If you fill packs with a nominal quantity, you are responsible for three rules - and the weights and measures office checks them with a sample plan. UP↑SCALE checks your lots the same way, on your own verified scale, and prints the lot report.
What it saves you
The three rules of the packer
- The mean of the net contents of a lot must be at least the nominal quantity (Qn).
- Only a few packs - max. 2.5 % (FPackV: 2 %) - may contain less than T1 = Qn - TNE.
- No pack may contain less than T2 = Qn - 2 × TNE.
Example: 500 g honey - TNE 15 g, T1 485 g, T2 470 g.
The tolerable negative error (TNE)
| Nominal quantity | TNE |
|---|---|
| 5 - 50 g | 9 % |
| 50 - 100 g | 4.5 g |
| 100 - 200 g | 4.5 % |
| 200 - 300 g | 9 g |
| 300 - 500 g | 3 % |
| 500 g - 1 kg | 15 g |
| 1 - 10 kg | 1.5 % |
| 10 - 15 kg | 150 g |
| 15 - 50 kg | 1 % |
The % values are rounded up to 0.1 g. The app takes them from the nominal quantity you enter.
While you fill: check-weighing with the ℮ limits
The ℮ button in the check-weighing setup asks for the nominal quantity and sets everything up: PERFECT from Qn up to Qn + TNE, OK from T1 up to Qn + 2 × TNE - every pack below T1 is red. Each pack goes into the statistics with the ℮ rules: mean, spread, Cp/Cpk, T1 and T2 as lines in the charts.

The lot check with the sample plan PRO (report)
- Choose the rules: EU ℮ packs (76/211/EEC) or Germany: FPackV for all packs with a nominal quantity.
- Enter the lot size (all packs of one filling: max. one hour of a filling line, otherwise max. 10,000 packs) and whether you open the packs (destructive test).
- The app shows the sample plan (FPackV annex 3 = the single sampling plans of 76/211/EEC): n packs to weigh, c allowed below T1, rejected from d - e.g. 50/3/4 for 100-500 packs, 80/5/6 up to 3,200, 125/7/8 up to 10,000.
- Take the sample at random and weigh it. The verdict checks: mean + k × s ≥ Qn (a big spread needs a higher mean), the packs below T1 (max. c), none below T2.
- You see ✓ LOT ACCEPTED, ✗ LOT REJECTED (as soon as it can't pass any more) or how many packs are still missing. Lots under 100 packs are checked pack by pack.
German special case: the drained weight of handmade packs or naturally grown food (§ 10 (3) FPackV) - no pack below Qn - 3 × TNE.
The lot report
- your company header, the product and the lot number

- the scale with its firmware and calibration date - with the RS-232 adapter a boxed line "weighed on a verified scale, in listen-only plus exact-weight mode"
- the results with ✓ / ✗, the verdict, every value of the sample (below T1 or T2 marked) and a line for the signature
- print, PDF or HTML (PRO); numbered and sealed by the scale, CSV (ENTERPRISE)

The limits - honestly
- For ℮ packs you need a verified scale: the 420 and 710 are not verified - with them, report and app say so. Use the RS-232 adapter on your verified scale (how).
- Your own check - not an official certificate. Inspectors take the spread into account: fill with a safe distance to Qn.
- Check the rules of your country.
