The UP↑SCALE app on iPhone and iPad

On Android and on computers the app runs in the normal browser. On Apple devices Safari (and every other browser there) has no Web Bluetooth - the way a web page talks to a Bluetooth device. A small, free helper from the App Store adds it. After that it is the same app with the same scale: nothing else to set.

Three ways - which one?

Prices and versions as shown in the App Store in November 2026 - they can change. You need only one of them.

1. Bluefy - the quick way (tested)

Bluefy is a web browser with Web Bluetooth. We use it ourselves: the app works in it out of the box, also the wireless label printers.

  1. Install Bluefy - Web BLE Browser from the App Store (free).
  2. Open Bluefy and type up-scales.com/420/ into its address bar.
  3. Switch the scale on and tap CONNECT. The first time, iOS asks whether Bluefy may use Bluetooth: tap Allow.
  4. Choose your scale in the list - done.

Tip: save the address as a bookmark in Bluefy, then the app is one tap away next time.

2. WebBLE - another browser app

WebBLE is a small browser with the main Web Bluetooth functions (connect, read, write, notifications). It works the same way as Bluefy. We have not tested it with our app yet - if you use it, tell us how it went.

  1. Install WebBLE from the App Store (1.99 USD).
  2. Open WebBLE and type up-scales.com/420/ into its address bar.
  3. Tap CONNECT, allow Bluetooth when iOS asks, and choose your scale.

3. beacio - Web Bluetooth inside Safari (new)

beacio is not a browser of its own: it is an extension for Safari that gives Safari the Web Bluetooth functions. You keep using Safari as always. It is new (iPhone with iOS 26.2 or later) and not tested by us yet - by its description our app should work in it without any change.

  1. Install beacio - Web Bluetooth for Safari from the App Store (free).
  2. Switch the extension on: open any page in Safari, tap aA in the address bar, then Manage Extensions, and turn beacio on.
  3. Give it access to the pages: tap aA again, tap beacio, then Enable on all websites - in Safari's question choose Always Allow… and on every website. (Or later: iPhone Settings › Apps › Safari › Extensions › beacio, "Other Websites".)
  4. Open up-scales.com/420/ in a normal Safari tab, tap CONNECT and choose your scale in the list of iOS.
  • Only in Safari tabs: the app opened from a Home Screen icon gets no Bluetooth with beacio. Open it in Safari instead (a bookmark is the quick way).
  • iPad is not in the list of devices of beacio - on an iPad use Bluefy or WebBLE.

Good to know on Apple devices

  • Several devices at once works as everywhere: an iPhone, a tablet and a computer can be connected to the same scale at the same time.
  • No USB cable: no browser on iPhone or iPad can open USB serial ports, so VIA 🔌 USB is only for computers. Bluetooth is the way here.
  • Offline use depends on the helper app: if the app does not start without internet there, just use it online. More: offline use.
  • Screen lock: when the iPhone locks or you switch to another app, iOS may stop the Bluetooth of the browser. Back in the app, tap CONNECT again if the scale is gone.
  • Scales of other makers join the same way (ADD MORE 🤝 SCALES), with the same helper app. The 📡 broadcast scales on the start page need a Bluetooth scan that these helpers may not offer.

If it does not connect

  • The app says your browser has no Bluetooth: you opened it in Safari without beacio, in Chrome for iPhone or from a Home Screen icon - open it in one of the three helpers above.
  • The list of scales stays empty: check that Bluetooth is on and that the helper may use it: iPhone Settings › Privacy & Security › Bluetooth - switch Bluefy / WebBLE / beacio on. Switch the scale on and bring it close.
  • Still nothing: close the helper completely (swipe it away) and open it again; the general steps are on app setup & help.
