How it is calculated

0.877 converts THCA to THC (and CBDA to CBD) by the molecular weights (314.5 / 358.5): the acid loses its carboxyl group while it is heated. Already decarboxylated material (distillate, aged hashish) goes in as THC directly. The extraction efficiency is how much of it ends up in the fat - the presets are rough averages; a lab test of the finished infusion is always better.
Example: 7 g of flower with 18 % THCA and 1 % THC: 7 × (1 + 18 × 0.877) × 10 = 1,175 mg THC. In butter (70 %) 823 mg; strained 220 g of butter = 3.74 mg THC per g. For 24 portions of 10 mg you need 64.2 g of it.

How do I calculate the THC per gram of cannabutter?
Cannabis (g) × (THC % + THCA % × 0.877) × 10 gives the mg of THC after decarbing; multiply by the extraction efficiency (about 70 % for butter) and divide by the weight of the strained butter. Example: 7 g at 18 % THCA, 1 % THC in 220 g of butter = about 3.7 mg per g.
What does the decarb factor 0.877 mean?
Cannabis contains mostly THCA, which is not psychoactive. Heating turns it into THC, and it loses its carboxyl group - 12.3 % of its weight. So 1 mg of THCA gives at most 0.877 mg of THC. If your decarb was not complete, the real factor is lower.
How much of the THC ends up in the butter or oil?
Not all of it: rough averages are 70 % for butter, 75 % for ghee, 80 % for coconut or MCT oil and 50 % for glycerine. It depends on the time, the temperature and the straining - a lab test of the finished infusion is exact.
How do I dose edibles to 10 mg THC per portion?
Infusion needed = 10 mg × portions / mg THC per g of your infusion. With 3.74 mg per g, 24 portions need 64.2 g of the infusion - weighed, not measured with a spoon. Start low, and wait long before a second portion.
How much THC is in a teaspoon of cannabutter?
mg THC per g × the density of the fat × 5 ml. Butter has about 0.911 g per ml, so a teaspoon holds about 4.6 g; at 3.74 mg per g that is about 17 mg of THC. Weighing is more exact than a spoon.
